Qualifications: BSc in Geology (University of Pretoria), MSc in Structural Geology (University of Pretoria).
Aart obtained his MSc in 1998. He also holds a blasting licence for metalliferous mines and is an accredited Master Black Belt in the Lean Six Sigma continuous improvement methodology.
He started his 36-year career in South Africa’s coal mining industry, moving to Lonmin’s platinum and BHP Billiton’s arctic diamond operations in Canada. He has worked extensively in underground mines (incline and vertical, shaft sinking and operational) as well as open pit operations.
Aart was first appointed Mineral Resource Manager in April 2010 and as Mining Operations Manager from March 2011 until April 2013 at PPM. He was then appointed General Manager of Operations until mid-2021, after which he assumed his current role of General Manager – Mining Technical Services.
